Basic Science is made easy for Junior Secondary School. Cardboard containing human skeleton. Book Two

Building Background/Connection to Prior Knowledge:

Student are familiar with the bone of animal in their local environment

Content:

Skeletons can be define as the bone structure or frame of the body of animal which gives rigidity, support and protect the delicate part of the body. The part of the body responsible for movement is called JOINTS and MUSCLES.

The body of the animal is built on supporting frame work of bone called skeletons.

Strategies & Activities:

Using demonstration method.

Step 1: The teacher will explain to the student

The skeleton system of a man is made up of two main parts which includes:

(i). Axial Skeleton           (ii). Appendicular Skeleton

  1. Axial Skeleton: this is made up of the skull and the vertebral, which include, the spine and the chest plate. The skull refers to the bones of the head and it protect the brain.

(ii). Appendicular Skeleton: this is made up of limbs, and limb which is directly concerned with movement in animals. The vertebrae are known as the backbone which protects the spinal cord.

These are the types of limbs in animal

  1. Forelimbs ii. Hindlimbs

What are Bones? Bones are made of hard Chemical materials called Calcium (ii) tetraoxophosphate (vi) and calcium (ii) trioxo carbohydrate (iv)

The Limb Skeleton Consist of

The bones of the shoulder, the arm and the hands

The bones of the hip, the legs and the feet in the lower body region, the upper body region has the flat bones called scapulae (scapula) singular form.
