FIRST AID AND MATERIALS

Meaning of first aid.

By the end of the lesson, Students should be able to:

Explain the meaning of first aid. Differentiate between the contents of a first aid box.

Apply the ABC of first aid to a victim of a workshop accident


WEEK 2

PROCESSING OF MATERIALS (WOOD)

  • Growth of trees
  • Felling of trees
  • Conversion of trees

. By the end of the lesson, Students should be able to:

Outline the various stages of the growth of a tree.

Demonstrate the processes of tree felling and the implements used.

Outline the methods of converting wood.


WEEK 3

PROCESSING OF MATERIALS WOOD (CONTD).

Seasoning of timber: Definition

Defects in wood.

Preservation of wood.

Manufactured boards.

By the end of the lesson, Students should be able to:

Explain the meaning method of seasoning in relation to wood

Identify and outline the defects in wood.

Outline the various types of wood defects.

Outline types/methods of applying preservatives.


WEEK 4

PROCESSING OF MATERIALS (METAL)

Methods of processing metal:

Smelting, Casting, Extraction

Advantages and Disadvantages of the different metal processing.

Methods/Identification of metal alloys.

By the end of the lesson, Students should be able to:

Differentiate the various ways of processing materials.

Identify metal alloys.

Explain the uses of common metal alloys.

WEEK 5

PROCESSING OF MATERIALS

(Ceramics and Glass)

Methods of processing clay, ceramics, and Glass materials.

Advantages and Disadvantages of the different processing methods.

By the end of the lesson, Students should be able to:

Describe the uses of clay, ceramics, and glass.

Produce simple clay, ceramic, and glass household wares.

Explain the methods of processing clay, ceramics, and glass.


WEEK 6

PROCESSING OF MATERIAL (PLASTICS & RUBBER)

Method of processing Plastics and rubber.

Advantages and disadvantages of the different processing methods

By the end of the lesson, Students should be able to:

Explain the method of processing plastic and rubber

Outline the advantages and disadvantages of each method.

Differentiate between rubber and plastics.


WEEK 7

CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT/MID-TERM BREAK

WEEK 8

Materials and their common uses (wood)

Uses of wood: Pulp, Paper making, furniture making, joinery, bridges, poles, and handles of implements, etc.

By the end of the lesson, Students should be able to:

Outline some common uses of wood


WEEK 9

MATERIALS AND THEIR COMMON USES (METAL)

Uses of metal: Household utensils, vehicles, airplanes, and ship bodies/parts.

By the end of the lesson, Students should be able to:

Explain specific uses of ferrous and nonferrous metals and their alloys.


WEEK 10

MATERIALS AND THEIR COMMON USES (CERAMICS AND GLASS)

Uses of ceramics: Assorted tiles, water closet, sandcrete block, and household utensils.

Uses of class: Making of bottles, dishes, ashtrays, etc.

Materials and their common uses (Plastic and rubber).

Uses of Plastics: Assorted household utensils, packaging applications.

Uses of rubber: Tyre production, Inner tubes, car bumpers, footwear, etc.

By the end of the lesson, Students should be able to:

Outline some common uses of ceramics and glass.

Identify some articles produced from ceramics and glass.

Outline the various uses of plastic and rubber.

Identify the various articles produced from plastic and rubber.
