INTRODUCTION
The Internet environment starts with the loading of the Internet browser. Some common examples include Microsoft Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox.
CONTENT: BENEFITS OF THE INTERNET
The Internet offers a variety of benefits. These include amongst others:
Communication/Information Exchange
With the internet, we are able to send and receive e-mails and exchange vital information. This is one primary benefit of the internet
E-learning
This stands for electronic learning which is a form of education conducted on the internet via audio and or visual tools. Many individuals acquire their degrees through this means.
E-Entertainment
All work and no play they said make Jack a dull boy. The internet can be used to entertain people through the following:
Playing games, Playing music, Watching online videos, etc
Fast and Cheaper Communication.
Another major benefit of the internet is its ability to minimize distances and provide communication services efficiently and without little or no cost.
E-Registration: The Internet provides examination bodies, schools, associations, events, etc. a simple, cost-effective registration service. Nigerian Examination bodies such as JAMB, WAEC, NECO, etc. carry out their registrations online.
E-Commerce
Thousands of businesses can be transacted online with the use of the internet. Examples are sales of cars, buildings, mobile phones, etc. E-commerce stands for electronic commerce.
Research
Electronic libraries are used for research purposes
Social Networking
A social network is a social structure made up of individuals[or organizations] that are connected by friendship, kinship, common interest, financial exchange, knowledge, or prestige.
Political Campaign
The internet is also used for the political campaign by political campaigns by politicians. A classical example is in Nigeria (used by President Goodluck Jonathan).
Abuse of the Internet
There are a number of old Internet hoaxes that continue to resurface on the net, taking advantage of new users. Some people use the internet for negative issues. Abuses of the Internet are:
Fraud: There are lots and lots of deception on the internet. Some people send fraudulent e-mails in order to defraud people through the Internet.
Pornography: A lot of websites publish or display pornographic materials and pictures. And so many people are now addicted to watching them including children.
Spam: There are so many emails that you did not request, but they are sent to your box through the internet, most of them are with the intention to cause serious damage, especially in the area of virus attack.
Strategy and Activity:
The activity I: The teacher leads by asking the student to mention some benefits of the internet.
Activity II: The teacher explains and lists the features of the internet.
Activity III: The teacher leads by explaining the key vocabulary in the class such as E-commerce, E-mail, E-entertainment, etc.
Activity IV: The teacher will summarize the topic and make the necessary corrections to the learners’ discussion.

Learners will provide answers to this question to check their understanding of the topic.
