Mirrors
Photos of diverse individuals (different sizes, shapes, races, etc.)
Markers and paper
Positive affirmation cards
Introduction (10 minutes):
Engage Students:
Begin with a reflective question: “How do you feel about the way you look?”
Discuss how everyone has unique features and that these differences make us special.
DEFINE BODY IMAGE:
Body Image: This is the way a person perceives and feels about their physical appearance, which can be influenced by self-perception, experiences, and societal standards.
ASPECT OF BODY IMAGE
The four aspects to body image are: perceptual, Affective, cognitive and behavioral.
Activity 1:
Appreciating Individual Uniqueness (15 minutes):
Discussion:
Talk about how everyone has different features such as size, shape, height, skin color, eye color, and hair type.
Emphasize that there is no “right” way to look, and every feature is part of what makes someone unique.
Exercise:
Have students look in a mirror and note three things they appreciate about their appearance.
Share positive traits with the class, focusing on celebrating diversity and uniqueness.

Factors Affecting Body Image (15 minutes):
Brainstorming Session:
Ask students what factors might affect how they feel about their bodies (e.g., media, social media, peer influence, family, cultural standards).
Enumerate the factors affecting body image.
