When talking of wisdom their are 5 major Components of Wisdom They are:

1. Knowledge,

2. Insight

3. Discernment

4. Character

5. Career.

Today’s Topic: Insight, Discernment and Character..27-04-2025.
ECC 3:1-2, Prov 4: 5-7 and Gen 1:27.

Introduction

Today’s lecture is on these three components of Wisdom which are Insight, Discernment and Character.

INSIGHT

Insight is about wisdom and foolishness ( Prov 1:7 and Prov 10:8 ) translating into saying if you don’t have wisdom then you are a fool.
Definition: Insight is the ability to discriminate between Life and Death. How sensitive are you to things that could bring about life or death. In psychology we have the concepts of Eros and Thanatos stating that there is a struggle between those two instincts that are influencing the shape of human behavior and equally our thoughts, feelings and actions.
To have Insight of Life…
1. Value of life( Gen1:27)
2. Purpose and meaning ( 1cor 10:31)
3. Hope and eternal life ( John 3:16).

To have Insight of death..
1. Consequences of sin( Rm5:12).
2. Temporary separation (iicor 5:8)
3. Victory over death( 1cor 15:55-57).
Most importantly you must know that there is time for everything to be able to discriminate appropriately between things of life and things of death( ECC 3:1-2).

DISCERNMENT

It is important to have wisdom and understanding for us to what is critical to doing good and evil.
Definition: Discernment is the ability to know Good from Evil. Running away from things that are of evil and embracing things that are good. ( Proudness and humility).
Critical to Discernment are:
1. Testing all things( Prov 14:15)
2. Seeking counsel ( Prov 15:22)
3. Being cautious ( Prov 19:2).
It is important to be able to distinguish between good from evil by choosing the path of righteousness ( Prov 12:5). Making delebrate attempts at avoiding evil.( Prov 4:14-15).
To have Discernment Ability:
1 Renewal of mind( Rm12:2)
2 Seeking guidance (Prov 3:5-6)
3 Discerning spirit ( 1John4:1)

CHARACTER

Every man is supposed to act and react in the likeness of the image of God.
Through character the fruits of the spirit are shown which are Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self control.
Definition: Character is the behavior of an individual. Behavior is our actions and reactions which could be normal or abnormal, overt or covert. There are three determinants of performance which are Skills Experience and Behavior. Meanwhile behavior is the most critical and the most religated in terms of Why, How and When.
Factors Influencing Behavior are:
1 Personality
2 Attitude
3 Perception
4 Emotion
5 Peer
6 School/ schooling
7 Media
8 Family
9 Culture
10 Religion.

Conclusion

Wisdom is obviously critical to how we live our lives and without it one can’t get to the top in life. The components of Wisdom such as knowledge insight discernment and character must be understood and properly applied by every individual.
