BUILDING BACKGROUND/ CONNECTION TO KNOWLEDGE:
Begin by asking students what they know about the death of Jesus. Ask guiding questions like:
- “Why did Jesus die?”
- “How do Christians remember the death of Jesus?”
Link this to the story of the Last Supper (which was taught previously) and explain that today’s lesson is about how Jesus was crucified and why it matters to all Christians.

Meaning of Crucifixion
Crucifixion is a method of capital punishment where a person is nailed or tied to a cross and left to die. It was a common Roman method of executing criminals.

The Story of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ
(Reference Scriptures: Matthew 27:32–44, Mark 15:21–32, Luke 23:26–43)
- After being sentenced by Pontius Pilate, Jesus was led to be crucified.
- A man named Simon of Cyrene was forced to help Jesus carry the cross.
- Jesus was taken to a place called Golgotha (meaning “place of the skull”).
- There, he was nailed to the cross between two criminals.
- Soldiers cast lots to divide His clothes.
- People mocked Jesus, saying, “If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”
- One of the criminals beside Him insulted Him, but the other repented and asked Jesus to remember him. Jesus told him, “Today, you will be with me in paradise.”
- Jesus showed love and forgiveness even in His suffering.
- At about 3 p.m., Jesus cried out and gave up His spirit. The curtain in the temple tore in two, and there was an earthquake.

Importance and Significance of the Crucifixion
- It fulfilled prophecy: Jesus’ death was foretold by prophets (Isaiah 53).
- It shows God’s love: Jesus died for sinners (John 3:16).
- It brings salvation and forgiveness: Through His death, our sins are forgiven.
- It reveals Jesus’ obedience: He obeyed God’s will till death.
- It opens access to God: The tearing of the temple curtain signifies open access to God for all.
- It teaches us humility, sacrifice, and forgiveness.
