TITTLE: Revision of JSS 1 Lesson / Welcome back test

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: By the end of this lesson learners will be able to:

  • Refresh their memory on the past lessons on information technology
  • Answer questions on the pre resumption test.

KEY VOCABULARY WORDS:

RESOURCES AND MATERIALS: question paper, portable laptop.

BUILDING BACKGROUND/ CONNECTION TO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE: The learners have learnt information Technology in their previous class.

CONTENT:

QUESTION: Explain the following age: i. Stone age. (ii) iron age. (iii) middle age. (iv) industrial age. (v) electronic age

ANSWER:

STONE AGE: this is a period characterized by the use of stones in making tools e.g

  • Hammer stone: used for battering surfaces
  • Stone core: to show a series of flakes scars along one or more edges
  • Sharp stone flakes: used for cutting edges
  • Stone awls: this was used to perforate hides
  • Stone scrappers: these are useful in preparing hide, wood and other materials.
  • Others include hand axe, bone needle, bone and ivory needle.

IRON AGE: began with the discovery and development of higher temperature of iron smelting and smiting techniques. Some of the tools associated with this age are: Hoes, Cutlass, Hammer, Neck armor.

MIDDLE AGE: Also known as the medieval age western society and education were shaped by Christianity. During this era people were forced to rely on resources they had at hand to create tools to help them in farming, building, clothing and other daily tasks. Tools associated with the middle age:

  1. Building tools: tread wheel crane, auger, chisel, hammer, trowel, adze
  2. Farming tools: plough, pitch folk, sickle, scythe
  3. Clothing tools: cloth shears, the spindle
  4. Academic tools: feather pen, ink, wall board and chalk

INDUSTRIAL AGE: This was the period of industrial revolution which brought about changes and extensive mechanization of production systems. Changes associated with industrial age are:

  • Shift from home based manufacturing to large scale machine manufacturing
  • Mass production, improved transportation and technological progress
  • Development of rail transportation system
  • The use of new process
  • Invention of telegraph for effective communication system
  • Production of new machinery using new techniques
  • The use of iron and steel, new energy sources and invention of new machines.

ELECTRONIC (COMPUTER) AGE: This is also known as the information age which relies on the use of computer technology and electronic devices. Tools associated with this age are; Mobile phone, Video camera, Television, Radio, Digital camera, Internet tool, Electronic printer, e-mail

STRATEGIES AND ACTIVITIES:

Activity I: Teacher leads by asking the learners to point out a few changes in the time of their grandparents to their parents and to this present stage.

Activity II: Teacher ask question for students to answer.

Activity III: Learners will mention some of the tools associated with the information age

Activity IV: Teacher mark the pre resumption test an makes necessary corrections

WRAP UP & ASSESSMENT: Teacher makes necessary corrections an allow students to  write the correction

ASSIGNMENT: Briefly explain the earliest methods of counting in the ancient days.
