DEFINITION OF MOTION
Motion is the change in position of an object with respect to time. It involves the displacement of an object from one point in space to another.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF MOTION
Motion can be classified into various types
Translational Motion
When an object moves in a straight line or along a curved path, its motion is called translational motion.
Rotational Motion
When an object rotates or spins about a fixed axis, its motion is called rotational motion.
Oscillatory Motion
When an object moves back and forth around a central point, it undergoes oscillatory motion.
Circular Motion
When an object moves in a circular path around a central point, its motion is called circular motion.
NEWTON’S LAWS OF MOTION:
Newton’s First Law (Law of Inertia):
An object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an external force.
Newton’s Second Law (Law of Acceleration):
The acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the net force acting on it and inversely proportional to its mass.
Newton’s Third Law (Action-Reaction Law):
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
EQUATION OF MOTION
The equation of motion relates an object’s displacement, velocity, acceleration, and time. It’s often expressed as:
- s=ut+1/2 at”2 (for motion under constant acceleration)
- v= u +at (relating final velocity, initial velocity, acceleration, and time)
- v*2+ u*2+ 2as (relating final velocity, initial velocity, acceleration, and displacement)
Where:
s = displacement
u = initial velocity
v = final velocity
a = acceleration
t = time.
