Topic: Covenant that provoke the move of God.

Text: Matthew 18:18-20

Introduction

If the foundation is sure, the house itself cannot collapse. The house that has solid foundation no matter the wind or storm that hits the house it will stand. Go to the village, you will see houses of 120 years old, they are still standing because it has to do with how strong the foundation is.

Last year, God spoke to us about encounter and many experienced it in their respective businesses, life and every area of their endeavors.

This year 2024, God promised us that He is ready to move in our life, work, family and all areas of life but if you don’t move with God, God will move without you.

Those in expectant for God’s move this year should be very careful because the moment you are in the church, just be patient with God so He can move in our lives.
From the beginning of creation both in the flesh and in the spirit, everything has a covenant and wherever there is covenant there is power and changes. An example is when God called Abraham, he gave him a covenant, He called Noah and also gave him a covenant.
If God wants to do something in the life of a person, he will start with a covenant and when you stand on this covenant it will always open doors.

Those who are into idol worshiping or occult have a way of keeping covenant no matter how difficult it is. No wonder the devil make things easy for them. Also, God has covenant with His children that when we hearken to it, it will make God move that no one can stop him. This was the kind of relationship that had with Abraham to an extent that God said He will not do anything without telling Abraham.
This assembly has a covenant God has made with it this year that if we derail it has its consequences..

Now, from the bible verse read to us, it says whatever you bind on earth will be bind in heaven and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Before this can really happen, it means there is a covenant binding this two people.

This year , you can put God in action if you hearken to the covenant and when you do, no one can stop Him. Where two or three people gather in agreement and ask for anything, God says it will be done. In all our prayers, fasting and gathering, God is saying He will grant it if we stick with His covenant.

Meaning of Covenant

This is an agreement or promise between two or more people. The reason husband and wife are living together is because they have an agreement. A woman or a man cannot just decide to stay with each other without an agreement.

Also, that is how our God works too that without a strong covenant He can’t work with us or us with Him. Failure to keep this covenant is the reason we can’t work with Him and when we fail to keep His covenant, He will move without us.

Biblical Meaning of Covenant:

This is an agreement between God and His people however He is requesting for some conduct from them. We believe God wants to move and we know He wants to move but He requires some attitude from us. What ever you are doing, at home, work or on a journey, you will see the move of God and if we can’t meet this request then we will live our life the way it pleases us.

Provoke:

This means to get something angry or to stir something up. It is to provoke God to bless us. We are referring to the positive aspect of provoke. We can provoke God to bless us, lift us up, open doors for us, extend favors to us, to open heavens and also we can provoke God to fight our enemies for us or help us silence them. So, this year we want to provoke God to open heaven and bless us.

Exposition:

A. What it takes to provoke the move of God

Jacob is one person that provoked God. Before God lifted the life of Jacob, It took something from him and he felt it.

Col 3:5ff, God said therefore, also preserve/mortify all the members of your body on earth.:

1. Fornication: God will never work in the life of a fornicator. No matter the prayer or fasting or visiting of the mountains, He will never answer the prayer of a fornicator.

2. Uncleanness:
God will not move with someone whose life is dirty, his ways is dirty, and always engage in filthy things.

3. Inordinate affection: God said He will work with us this year but we should remove worldly pleasures, ie love for things of the world.

4. Love for evil things: This is harboring evil thoughts in our heart towards another person. Some will greet you now but their heart is evil towards that person.

5. Covetousness: (Idolatry): God told the disciples to remain in Jerusalem that He will bring His blessings to them. He is never happy with those who wander about looking for nothing. The question is what have you achieve in all your wandering about in the past. Many are found of wandering about looking for miracle.

Things we should drop behind in order to see the movement of God this year.

The bible says, But now, leave all this things which is

1. Anger: The bible said we should forsake anger, because an angry person is a foolish person. Anger will always drive away blessings, shut open doors, favor and before you know it the person will miss great opportunities.

2. Wrath; When you get angry unnecessarily. This category of people are never happy with anything good. They are angry when others progress or becoming successful.

3. Keeping Malice: Some people have issues of last year or 10 years ago still locked in their heart and they refuse to let it go. Whatever is the past problem, forget about it for God to move. Your heart will be too heavy and it will restrict you from praying or having quiet time with God

4. Blasphemy: God say we should drop this too for Him to move. This are for those who speak wrongly about your church, members, other people’s family etc.

5. Filthy Communication: Many are good with dirty discussions. As a child of God, there are somethings that should not be heard from our mouth instead out conversations should be godly.

6. Lastly, it says we shouldn’t lie to one another.

B. Demand or requirements to provoke God’s move

In verse 12, the bible says therefore, as an elect of God, you are a beloved, so God is asking for the following:

1. We should put on the bowels of mercy

Whenever anyone is doing anything, be happy with it and not bitterness. We should be happy with each other. God is joy and He dwells in it.

2. Humility

He wants us to humble ourselves, it will make God move in our midst. Whatever position, wealth you have, height you have attain, He is saying we should humble ourselves before Him. The opposite of humility is pride, so with pride you cannot see God.

3. Meekness

He wants us to gentle and take things easy with each other.

4. Long-suffering

We should be able to endure each other. Noah’s ark has different kind of animals yet they lived with each other during the flood.

5. Forbearing one another

We have to bear with each other. Our character and attitude differs so mush so is good that we forbear with one another. Some people don’t know how to communicate with others, the moment you spot it it will help you to know how to forbear with each other.

Lastly, the bible says if you have any bitterness or issue with anyone, just forgive. Matthew 18:21, Jesus wants us to forgive ourselves countless times. In so many ways we will offend each other, however lets learn to forgive.

We should be happy with each other. if anyone has problems, let’s stand with him and if anyone is rejoicing, let’s rejoice with the person. All the above will allow the move of God in our midst.
